"A Steadfast Profile of Pride & Progress!
This is where you will find information about the South Central District of The National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women's Clubs, Inc. We are comprised of business and professional women and youth clubs in the states of Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas.
Our District Mantra: The Proud South Central District - "A Steadfast Profile of Pride & Progress!" depicts our commitment to excellence in our programmatic thrusts carried out through our clubs with their volunteerism, community service projects and recognition activities. Focusing on our national mandates: Health, Education, Employment, Economic Development, and Women's History, our clubs work diligently to keep our communities wonderful places in which to live and work. We mentor our extremely active Youth Clubs to do the same, and the torch is passed on to them in order for the cycle of service to continue.
As the prize-winning South Central District, we are one of the oldest districts of our national organization, and we are proud of that distinction and involvement. We are eagerly looking forward to the convening of our 47th Annual District Conference scheduled to convene March 13 - 15, 2009 in Little Rock, Arkansas. Our plans are to again engage the surrounding community by recognizing "unsung" heroes during our HOPE Awards Luncheon, and to present books to elementary schools for their libraries. Our 2008 HOPE Award recipients were Ms. Royce Adams, founder of My Second Chance; Ms. Dianne Gibson, developer of the Community Court in the South Dallas Community; Ms. Edna Pemberton, a long-time community advocate; and District Attorney Craig Watkins, for his program to reinvestigate old criminal cases using DNA testing to free the unjustly imprisoned.
Our Youth will be conducting their Tree Planting activity on the grounds of the Little Rock Nine Museum, and making their program presentations on Friday evening highlighting the community service activities they have accomplished since the last conference. They will also participate in the Suitcase Players and the Oratorical competition in preparation for their competitions at the national convention in Buffalo, New York in July, 2009.
Our national association's signature program - The Vocal Arts Competition for Emerging Artists - will be one of the highlights of the Conference, and like the Hope Awards Luncheon, is also open to the public. In this event, college students pursuing classical voice performance and opera as a career, compete for scholarships and also go on to compete at our national convention.
Welcome, again, to the South Central District website. There are many opportunities to serve with us through one of our dynamic clubs. We invite to you come again, or better yet -- contact one of our clubs and inquire about membership. The South Central District is an exciting place to work and serve!
Serving with Pride & Progress!
